EXTRACTION SURGERY (WISDOM TEETH)

Some teeth are extracted because they are severely decayed. Others may have advanced gum disease or are broken in a way that cannot be repaired. Other teeth may need removal because they are poorly positioned in the mouth (such as impacted teeth) or in preparation for placing braces. The removal of a tooth can lead to several functional impairments related to chewing, speaking, or shifting of teeth. We will discuss alternatives to extractions as well as replacements of the extracted tooth with you.

Wisdom teeth may require extraction if they are causing pain or if they do not have space to erupt into the oral cavity, in which case we advise extraction. The extraction may be the same as a regular extraction or we will be performing a "transalveolar extraction". Both procedures are in-office procedures and will do in a single appointment. An x-ray and oral examination will help us decide the method of extraction.
